Pets

It’s not a personal web page without pictures of your pets, so I’m obliged to include these snaps.

We have three pets, Gemma, a German Shepherd Dog, Ash, a Blue Heeler X, and LG, a domestic short haired black cat.

Gemma

Gemma is the German Shepherd I always wanted as a child.  She was born in November 2005Gemma and we picked her up when she was 8 weeks old. She’s the first dog that we’ve had the pleasure of raising, and she certainly proved challenging.

As you can see from the image above, she’s grown into a beautiful dog, and she’s loads of fun.

She’s always up to some mischief with Ash, her partner in crime.  Together, they work as a perfect burglar deterrent.  Ash provides the bark, and Gemma looks tough.  She’s more likely to lick you to death than bite though.

Ash

Ash the Wonder Pup!

Ash is a Blue Heeler X we rescued from the RSPCA in June, 2006.  We got him as a companion for Gemma so that she would stop destroying the backyard, but in hindsight they’ve made things worse, making tracks from chasing each other up and down the garden.

Ash was quite a chubby puppy when we got him, weighing in at about 28kg, compared with Gemma’s 26kg.  We’ve whittled his weight back down to a healthy 22kg, and he’s looking great.  For every kilo lost, he’s gained in energy which is very useful when playing with a German Shepherd 10 hours a day!

He is a very loving and affectionate dog, and he loves to come up to you and rest his paw on your arm.

In September 2007 Ash got into a bag of sultanas which shut down his kidneys.  You can read more about this at Don’t Feed Dogs Sultanas!

LG

LG the Cat!When I met my lovely wife, she came with baggage in the form of LG. LG, a beautiful, sleek, black cat has a personality that is inversely proportional to his looks. It’s almost as though everything bad and evil that might have been part of Manda has been distilled into this cat.

LG is short for “the Little Guy”, as he was small enough for Manda to hold him in the palm of one hand.

Unfortunately, being completely black, LG is not very photogenic. He usually turns out as a completely black blob with no definition, with glowing yellow eyes. This merely serves to reinforce the idea that he’s a shadow of pure evil, which is the look that suits him best anyway.

He enjoys ear rubs and strong back stroking, but he’s very particular about who does this - only Manda and I are allowed! He hates being picked up, and is very wary of the dogs, mostly because Gemma likes to sniff him halfway up her nostril.  Rarely, we can find him sleeping just centimetres away from Ash, but LG gives Gemma a wide berth at all times.
